Something Wicked

F.A.Q

Where are you based?
Pacific Northwest. West of Portland OR, up in the hills of the coastal range.

How do you do that?
What specifically? That one covers a lot of territory, that answer could be anything from ”With a needle and thread.” to “ Standing on a chair with a mixing spoon up my nose trying not to be found by the penguins.” Admittedly the later is only applicable in extreme cases.

What techniques do you use?
I am an equal opportunity exploiter of beads. I use peyote stitch, brick stitch, Ndebele herringbone stitch, netting, stringing, spiral stitch, polymer clay of all types, found object collage, painting and faux finishes, bead embroidery, fringe of all types, and general lunacy.

How do I get one of those?(whatever they are)
I hope to have a store option in the future of the website, but till that time, send inquires to Info@somethingwickedstudios.com and I will give a price quote.

Where do your ideas come from?
Literally everywhere. This is the hardest question to answer for me. I can show you a picture that inspired me to make an art piece and all you would see is what is there. How do I explain that I can see dancing camels in a snapshot of the anarchy symbol on a teenagers tee shirt? See you’re looking at me funny. Some of the more obvious sources are, nature, architecture, other artists work, books, dreams, junk, music, pickled cactus on an empty stomach.

How did you get into this?
Oh boy. I just wake up with a need to create. I had a vision of jewelry stuck in my head and had to learn how to make it. Last time it was metal sculpture. Next time it may be Tibetan yak herding. You never know.

Do you take commissions?
Yes with some stipulations:
1. You do not ask me to duplicate something that could be purchased at the mall. I have a unique take on the art of jewelry design. If you are asking me to make you a piece, let it be the original work of art and craft that we both deserve.
2. You do not ask me to duplicate another artists work. Shame will boil the living brains of forgers. I need my brain. If you would like something that, for example, calls to mind Monet’s Water lilies, that we can do. I am not aware of him ever having a post modern jewelry period so we are good there. If you have seen an original design by Lara McCabe and it captures your imagination, that is copyrighted work on which the artist makes her living. I ask that you just contact her and buy the necklace or a kit for it. Really it will boil the brain. And I have heard stories about the kidneys.
3. There is a non refundable design fee. It is based on the size and complexity of the item you wish designed, and will be clearly stated at the time a contract for services is struck.
4. The possibility exists that you will not like the design, or may ask for something I cannot do. In that instance I will try to refer you to another artist that can help you realize your vision.
